Ariel is a fictional character and the titular heroine of Walt Disney Pictures’ 28th animated feature, *The Little Mermaid* (1989). She also appears in the film’s prequel television series (1992–1994), the direct-to-video sequel *The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea* (2000), and the direct-to-video prequel *The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Beginning* (2008). Voiced by Jodi Benson in all official animated versions and related merchandise, Ariel holds the distinction of being the fourth Disney Princess. She is notable for being the first non-human princess and the only Disney princess to become a mother to her own child.
