ARMA (stylized as ARMA) is a series of first-person tactical military shooter games initially developed for Microsoft Windows. Known for its high level of realism and simulation, the series combines large-scale military operations across expansive terrains with intense close-quarters combat. The inaugural game was launched in 2006, with subsequent entries released up to 2013. Over time, ARMA titles have become available on multiple platforms, including Windows, Linux, Android, and iOS.
The first installment, titled *ARMA: Armed Assault* (released as *ARMA: Combat Operations* in the United States), debuted for Microsoft Windows in November 2006 in the Czech Republic and Germany, followed by Europe in February 2007, and the United States in May 2007. This game utilized the Real Virtuality 2 engine. Its successor, *ARMA 3*, is a standalone title for Windows that was officially released on September 12, 2013, built on the more advanced Real Virtuality 4 engine. It first entered public testing via Steam’s Early Access program on March 5, 2013. Between late 2015 and early 2016, ARMA 3 was also released in earlier versions for Linux and Mac, with efforts underway to fully update these versions to match the main Windows release.
